Our latest weekend away was to the Phillipines. Neither of us have been before and we're not the sunbathing sort of travellers. But after seeing the paradise like beaches Bohol had to offer, we thought it would be great to explore this island and this type of break.
The beaches were indeed white and sandy, and the food was fantastic. We stayed near Alona beach for a couple of days, and although quite touristy...there's nothing better than eating fresh fish, caught daily, grilled and cooked Filipino style, with a few refreshing cocktails or wine, al-fresco on the beach.
We also hired a scooter and scooted all around the southern part of the island, stopping off wherever we wanted, checking out the various beaches along the coast. We then traveled to the Eastern part of the island, and stayed in Anda. An extremely remote, quiet and wonderful part of the island. We booked a charming little hut at La Petra Resort (www.lapetraresort.com), which had a wonderful ocean view. The restaurant at the resort was excellent, really big and hearty dishes. A taste of paradise!
